Tahiti’s sister island, Moorea, is referred to as "The Magical Island" and is close enough to see from Tahiti...just 12 miles northwest across the Sea of the Moon. It soars out of the ocean like a huge mountain of green velvet and is surrounded by a wide ethereal, bright, turquoise lagoon that resembles a lush collar of sheer chiffon. Every photo of the lagoon looks like a painting because it is hard to believe that it is truly the crystal clear color it is.

The island is known for its majestic mountain ridges overlooking the island’s two picturesque bays: Cook’s Bay and Opunohu Bay. Polynesian legend describes the panorama of these volcanic ridges as the second dorsal fin of the fish that became the island of Tahiti. The interior is a landscape of mountain peaks covered with an almost impregnable carpet of tropical foliage; palm trees, thick bushes, bursts of brilliant wild flowers and and fruit trees, it's  heavy fragrance of which is intoxicating.

Beautiful beaches circle the shoreline and are dotted with the many resorts
that beckon to tourists worldwide. Safari trips are an excellent way to explore the islands,  visiting the pineapple fields and tropical flower farms. Snorkeling, diving, sailing, jet-skiing and all manner of water sports afford you a variety of ways to see and enjoy all that Moorea is.

All who have traveled here agree: the beauty of Moorea is unforgettable.
