    S
tructure House is the recognized pioneer in the behavioral treatment of excess weight. The program is perfect for you if you feel you have a problem with your food intake and are seeking a real breakthrough in your weight and health management. Since 1977, thousands of people have come to the residential treatment center in North Carolina to learn how to change self-defeating patterns into a healthy way of life.

With nutrition and fitness guidance, we’ll help you lose weight immediately. With behavioral counseling, we’ll help you keep it off. Structure House is not a luxury spa. Instead of frills, you will find the encouragement of health care experts and the camaraderie of others who are seeking to make a successful change in their lives. Our program is a school for change and our results are among the best in the field. The holistic program helps you restructure your life by providing you the tools and knowledge you require to reach your goals.

Removed from the stress and routine of home, you and your fellow participants will become immersed in therapeutic treatment in a supportive and comfortable environment. The treatment philosophy of Structure House is that “structure” is a problem-solving strategy for living with food in a healthy way. “Structured” eating is consuming nutritious food to meet one’s daily nourishment needs. Other eating is “unstructured” and is triggered by boredom, stress, loneliness, habit, or any combination of these factors.

On April 2, 2002 the Internal Revenue Service ruled that qualified taxpayers may claim certain weight loss expenses on their tax returns. You must be under a physician guidance to lose weight for medical reasons to qualify. You may claim those medical expenses, including physician-prescribed weight loss expenses, that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross annual income. If available to you, the Flex Spending Program may be employed. Check with your tax advisor for additional details and to determine if you qualify.

Notes:
There are a limited number of two bedroom/two bathroom apartments available. Please ask for specific details to accommodate your needs.

Weight-Loss Programs May Be Tax Deductible

According to new policy (IRS Ruling 202-19), Some overweight Americans may now be eligible to deduct the cost of weight-loss programs.
You can deduct qualifying expenses as part of medical care, which include weight-loss program fees, under Section 213(a) when your medical expenses exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income.
Three employee benefits: Medical Savings Accounts, Flexible Spending Accounts, and Health Reimbursement expenses based on a doctor's recommendation.
Please consult your tax advisor regarding your individual circumstance
.

Required Documentation & Proof of Payment

You need a doctor's letter that:

1. States your diagnosis of obesity and/or obesity related
    disease

2.
A doctor's recommendation that you lose weight. You will
also need a record of your expenses, invoices, receipts
and/or a weight loss booklet that is stamped with your
    attendance and payments.

For reimbursement through a Medical Savings Account or a Flexible Spending Account, you must submit both a doctor's letter and proof of payment for treatments. Tax payers are expected to be able to produce documentation of their deduc-tions going back three years. (in some cases you may go back six years)

Structure House offers a four-week intensive program for first-time participants. Although the best benefits will be received by attending all four weeks together, the program may be attended in separate weeks of one, two or three as needed. Of course, you may also elect to visit Structure House for less than the suggested program.

Your program includes a private one-bedroom apartment, individually selected meals, use of all facilities, and a schedule of more than 80 classes and activities each week. Call and ask about fees for a two-bedroom apartment if you are visiting with a companion.

Your Structure House program may be tax deductible. Ask for details.
