guests who choose one of the many spa packages the resort offers, taking southern

Many of
the resorts visitors have included authors, politicians, royalty, dignitaries and
celebrities, such as Jimmy Carter, George Bush, Woodrow Wilson, Calvin Coolidge, Somerset
Maugham, Lillian Gish, John D. Rockefeller, Jr., Hopalong Cassidy, Perry Como, Carol
Burnett, Jimmy Stewart and Eugene ONeill. Having famous visitors plant
oak trees on The Cloister lawn was an early tradition and even today, guests can see
the Eisenhower Oak among others.
The Spa Concierge is involved
in the custom planning of the guest's itinerary - from sea turtle walks and kayaking to
spa treatments and fitness programs - and will also handle dinner reservations,
transportation service and other arrangements, taking care of all details to allow
guests to truly relax. Guests may also enjoy a la carte spa services from a comprehensive
menu of services and treatments.
At The Sea Island Spa, the psyche
is given as much attention as the body. Meditation, breathing classes, aromatherapy
and various wellness lectures and demonstrations are some of the ways guests learn to add
balance and focus to hectic lives.
The soothing elements of the
sea are incorporated in such offerings as the "Mind Body Walk," an early
morning beach walk incorporating Tai Chi and "Journaling by the Sea," a program
that teaches relaxation through writing.
A sampling of additional sessions
includes a "Walk on the Drive Side," fitness walking with a personal trainer;
"The Method Training," using Pilates-type exercise techniques to foster good
posture and enhanced movement; "Food for Thought," focusing on nutrition
and "Aromatherapy Makes Scents" exploring the healing properties of
essential oils.
Recreational activities include golf,
tennis, skeet shooting, water sports, bicycling, horseback riding, special dance programs
and musical entertainment.
