Hungary is very rich in healing thermal waters. About half a million cubic meters of thermal water rushes up every day from natural springs and drilled wells throughout the country. Their Medicinal waters are used in two basic ways:  for bathing and as a drinking cure. The 'Drinking Cure' means to drink the mineral waters for their curative effects and are excellent for gastro-intestinal, dietary purposes, etc.

Bathing for medical purposes has a millennial past in Europe. Bathing had different and various functions among ancient peoples. Hippocrates examined the utilization of medicinal waters for treatment. Several of his conclusions are still valid today. A new prospering era of balneology - the science of medicinal waters - together with hydro- therapy - water cure - started in the 19th century. The aspects of hydrotherapy have changed significantly during the last few decades. Today’s treatments are not restricted to using medicinal waters only. A contemporary “spa physician” is a rheumatologist, internist or gynecologist with a wide range of knowledge. A complex therapy including the use of medicinal waters, physical exercises, massages, electrotherapy and diet plan shows better and quicker results.

On Margaret Island in a lovely park in the middle of the Danube River, wedged between the Buda and Pest side of Budapest, these two newly refurbished hotels comprise a major health complex. No cars are allowed so the island is perfect for a very peaceful sojourn. Famous for mineral rich thermal waters these hotels have long been the Mecca for "spa curists". The spa center is huge and offers every type of therapy for fitness, beauty and therapeutic programs. The 2 hotels & spa are joined by an indoor corridor.
